Main Street UMC has new director of music ministries

Jill Gardner, a musician and singer with strong roots in church music, opera and directing, is the new director of music ministries at Main Street United Methodist Church.

Gardner was the assistant music director at the church for the past year and succeeds Nancy Blakemore, who was the director for 17 years.

“I think I can say Nancy is a big reason why I am at Main Street United Methodist. She hired me a year ago and knew I had a big background in directing. I think she was very pivotal in putting me forward,” Gardner said. “Main Street has a long history of fine music ministry, and I want to build on that. I was also impressed that at Main Street there is a big emphasis on mission. I feel that with my background I want to take music ministry out of Main Street to serve the community.”
